Formalist Abstract Paintings

Early on I was looking for paintings that had no reference to anything.  I looked for the painting to reveal to me its inner structure. No drawing, taping, or planning is done.  The process is partly influenced by printmaking techniques, especially silkscreen. The idea of filling the white space with successive applications of related or contrasting color, straight lines, and simple designs create a digital appearance. The paintings represent a hand-painted neo-luddite response to the proliferation of digital images of the 21st century.
